Expression of the membrane-associated mucin MUC-1 and its relationship with Ki67 in mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the salivary glands

Background: Salivary gland tumors are rare and with different malignant potential. Immunohistochemistry is useful, especially Ki67, a marker of cell proliferation, for its prognostic information. On the other side, mucin MUC-1 overexpressed loses exclusively apical membranous localization aberrantly glycosylated in mucoepidermoid carcinoma salivary glands. In present work, we investigated quantitative expression tumor proliferative index overexpression human glands, not studied these organs, to determine their relationship histological grade prognosis.
